Head Injury and Memory for Remembering Faces Places Music Movies etc...

I almost put this post in the kinda funny category as its funny at least to me after all these years. What I mean is that much time and energy have been spent with varying results in improving my memory after the head injury not only in an attempt to receive some function but to maintain it.

Now even after much was spent on supplements and eating healthy for my brain, I and others notice a marked difference. Oh yeah, since the head injury I've attained an accreditted engineering degree and successful graduate study at RIT...

But I never know what that I won't instantly recall. Sometimes its a face, name, movie or musical artist. I say that recalling things is pretty good if I had several minutes to several hrs to recall anything. The memory is mostly instant recall and responding to followup quetions in succession having to recall facts.

What to do?

Well , I have been able to minimize the detrimental effects but even today over twenty years after the gunshot to my head, I experience the gaps, the fog, the slow processing speed. I can honestly recommend that by developing your subconscious minds power, many things come quicker. Please visit this Quantum Mind Power Site
and 100% of the promises on this page won't fullty work on head injured but for me and a few close friends , its been remarkable.

How to Enhance Your Brain and Memory

I know that damage to the head and brain can prevent some techniques and tips from working fully. I really know as after the blow to my head from the gunshot caused a number of issues and God knows still does. I cant guarantee that tips on my blog will catapult your IQ or give you laser like focus or an super memory. I do know that if you lok at all available out there from nutritional supplements, exercise and diet!, to tips, training, even hypnosis, you can see some improvement. Thats basically all I'm saying...

How to Enhance Your Brain and Memory

Think back to when you were a child and loved to play games. Your parents may have purchased a game for you to help develop your memory. All the cards were laid face down, and then you flipped a card over. Then you flipped a second card over. If it matched the first, the two cards were removed. The trick was to remember where certain cards were; hence the term memory game. As a child, you thought you were just playing a fun game, when in reality, you were learning to hone your memory.

Later on, you may even have watched a game show called “Concentration” where basically you were doing the same thing as in the childhood game. Only this time, the contestants won prizes. The incentives change, but the ultimate goal is the same—to keep the brain sharp.

In the past, doctors and scientists thought cognitive decline (losing of one’s memory) was simply the inevitable result of aging. However, we know now that it’s not a forgone conclusion that growing older means a mental decline. It is possible to maintain robust mental health throughout your life and keep your brain as sharp as it ever was.

Studies show a definite link between mental stimulation from leisure activities and improved cognitive function. Mentally challenging activities can actually provoke the growth of new cells and new connections in the brain. There are even studies that show the possibility that the human brain can regenerate.

The simple act of memorizing songs, poetry, dance steps, or learning new skills can stimulate the brain and keep it sharp. Playing games like chess, or computer games, even card games and word puzzles can improve your ability to concentrate. Other ways to keep your brain sharp would be to learn a new language or read and discuss books. Try taking a new class. Anything new will get those neurons firing. Any Tan says that “memory feeds the imagination.”

For those who enjoy their online time, there are even forums and discussion groups, where those with the same interests can visit and discuss everything from current events to music, books, theater and television. There’s nothing like a great little debate to keep those brain cells active.

Exercise is another way, believe it or not, to keep that gray matter healthy and active. A good, brisk walk or jog is great for clearing away the cobwebs and keeping your brain firing on all cylinders. It actually enhances the learning process. This happens because it increases cerebral blood flow, providing in turn an increased supply of oxygen and glucose to the brain.

With the great wave of Baby Boomers all becoming seniors in the next few years, there is even more of a need to stimulate the brain; keep it as young as possible. No one wants to end their days rocking on the porch, unable to remember their own names. So, get out there and enhance your skills, take classes-- learn to dance, learn to play the piano, or guitar, read more and start a discussion group. Go to the movies and the theater, go to concerts, play games. But keep that brain working at top performance and speed.

In the words of Tryon Edwards (1809-1894), “The secret of a good memory is attention, and attention to a subject depends upon our interest in it. We rarely forget that which has made a deep impression on our minds.”

The Power of a Positive Attitude

The power of a positive attitude is actually an immense one! A famous Mathematician with a natural knack for philosophy by the name of Rene Descartes once said: “It is not enough to have a good mind. The main thing is to use it well.” Amazingly, we each have immense capacities when it comes to our minds. There are a number of powers that our minds have that we all must learn to tap from in order to discover our potential and help others in the world discover their potential. Unfortunately, most of us have a habitual habit of failing to implement the power that we possess. The first being the power that each of us possess – the power of a positive attitude!

I ran across an interesting fact recently. This fact regarded the amount of cells that each human brain has – on an average. Did you know that we each have approximately two hundred BILLION cells in the brain alone? Pretty intense cell count, huh? Well, then, I discovered that the average person will implement approximately 1% of these cells in their entire lifetime! This means, out of two hundred million cells, in our entire lifetime, we only use about two million! Imagine the potential that you have! You have one hundred and ninety eight brain cells that are active and just waiting to be put to use! This just goes to show how much power positive thinking can have on your life, others, and the world as a whole!

If you want to increase the potential that you have, enjoy a positive outlook on life, share your perspective with others, or even change the world, you can! This can all be made possible by the power of positive thinking! Listed below are some steps that you can take in order to increase your ability to think in a positive manner:

1. The very first thing that you can do to bring about positive thoughts is to take care of yourself physically! How we feel physically has a great impact on how we feel mentally. If we take special care in ensuring that we consume a healthy diet, exercise on a regular basis, and rest when it is appropriate and for an appropriate amount of time, then we all can experience a boost when it comes to positive thinking!

2. The next way that we can be positive is to surround ourselves with positive things! Listen to positive music, take part in positive conferences, hang out with positive people, read positive books enjoy art that is positive in perspective – just do the positive, positive, positive and you are sure to develop a way of thinking that is powerfully positive!

3. The third way to acquire a positive attitude is to change your perspective. Mental attitudes often develop from the way that we see things. Let us take someone who has “failed” in something…the negative thinker will consistently focus on their failures. The positive thinker, however, will see the “failure” as an opportunity to grow and learn. If you want to be positive, you must see that nothing happens by accident and that there is a reason for everything. That reason is help you become the best person that you can possibly be.

As you can see, it is easy to harness the power of positive thinking. The difficult thing about positive thinking is electing to be positive. By following the simple steps contained here, you can change your perspective. You can take the power of positive thinking and change your life, the lives of others, and even the world that you are part of! You can increase your potential, and your status in life – all with the power of positive thinking!

Check For My Keys

Hope You are well today. Here's a story of mine that shows what ridiculous stuff happens even years after a traumatic brain injury.

If you recall from previous posts, I was blessed with partial recovery from nerve damage, worked hard in rehab and then entereed colleg and and graduated as an engineer, flew through a yr of grad scool and have had a successful career just n a limited basis depending alot on hours and processing information fast.
So I leave my house and place my keys in my left hand (the weak one from hemiparisis) and lower my left hand while I reach for the door with my right hand , I close the door when I say to myself, wait, i dont know where the keys are... I start looking in my coat pocket (on the right side, the only pockets I use...) and no keys. I feel myself panicking kind of because I just shut the door! - you know that feeling that you get where, uh oh, I'm locked out of my house , no spatre keys outside (it was locked in my car) and I wont be able to go through any windows. I start to my right pocket and start reaching all the way down . now I'm really in worried panicky mode. Then as I am about to give up , I see the keys in my left hand!
Theres some feeling there but the brain just did not register , you know?
